Arakanese Community Protest against the Myanmar Government in New York

Arakanese Community in America (USA) held a protest in front of the United Nations Headquarters office and Myanmar Embassy at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM local time respectivel on 12 February in New York, USA against the ongoing Burmese/Myanmar government violations of human rights towards Arakanese people in Arakan/Rakhine state of western Burma/Myammar.

The protestors call for the justice for the recent police crackdown over a public protest in the Arakanese ancient city of Mrauk-U that left 9 Arakanese youths dead and 12 other severely injured . The protestors also call for the immediate release of Arakanese politician and lawmaker Dr Aye Maung and social worker Ko Wai Hun Aung who were arbitrarily detained by the Burmese/Myanmar authority since January 2018.

The protestors also call on to end the Burmese colonization and halt of human rights abuses in Arakan and Burmese Army (Burma Tatmataw) to get out from the Arakan state and to stop civil war in Burma/Myanmar.

The demonstration was organized by American Arakan Community (AAC) where about 200 Arakanese/Rakhine people coming from different states of America and took part in the protest .
