An Arakanese/Rakhine youth who is working at an INGO was severely injured after being shot by Burma Army also known as Tatmataw’s troops on 28 July, 2019 in the city of Mruak-U, Arakan, western Burma/Myanmar. The incident was happened at the Kyauk Raik Kay quarter at around 8 PM in the city of Mrauk-U when the victim was passing by a unit of Burma Army’s troops riding a motorbike.
The Burma Army told him to stop but he did not hear the voice of the Burma Army’s troop because he was riding the motorbike and going towards his direction. The bullet hit at his left chest and he was immediately sent to the Mrauk-U hospital. He was later being transferred to Sittway General Hospital as emergency today’s morning due the serious injuries.
The victim was identified as Ko Ray Linn Aung, 25 years old, son of U Thar Chan Aung from the Shwe Tar Mar village of Minbya (Mong Bra) township under Mrauk-U district. According to the Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports the Burma Army have filed a case against the victim under the Myanmar Anti- Terrorism Act and being given treatment at the Sittway General Hospital as patient of custody.
Since the December 2018 to June 2019, AASYC has documented a total of 169 have been killed and 132 people got injured due to the armed conflict in Arakan.
